tree hunt 2015

9:16 PM

last week we wandered up to our favorite christmas tree farm and got ourselves a tree. we don't have a lot of family traditions (yet) but this one is dear to us, being the owner is like family. the trees have been taunting me since before thanksgiving so i was more than ready to bring one home.

holland leaped out of the car faster than lightning, clark close behind. i feel like i say it all the time, but it still amazes me what a year can bring. last year clark was just a bundle of love all wrapped up in his carrier sound asleep on my chest. this year, he roamed the depths of the farm, solo. i love seeing our boys in nature, all wild and free lost in their own imaginations.

if you missed last years post, make sure to check it here. holland hammed it up. if you want to see holland at clark's age, you can see that here.

baker beach, san francisco

8:15 PM

we spent last friday at beautiful baker beach in san francisco with the amazing jana contreras. when she offered to photograph our family, we didn't think twice about it. the location was the icing on the cake. the ocean is a place so close to our hearts, myself growing up in a small beach town in northern california, and my husband, the shores of oahu. so many pivotal parts of our relationship have taken place right along the shores of the sea. the beach is our retreat. and san francisco, we'd be crazy to say no. plus, i have been admiring the bright, clean backgrounds seen in so many of her photos for sometime now. if you haven't noticed, bright, natural light and clean lines are kind of my jam.

we had so much fun hanging out down by the water and exploring the area nearby. the boys ran and dug (in their picture clothes and all), and jana was so great and understanding, encouraging it even. it made the day feel a whole lot less like a photo shoot and a whole lot more fun. holland was quick to ditch his shoes and get right to play, clark followed close behind per the norm.

i have been so excited to share her captures with you. i hope you enjoy them as much as we do, and don't forget to check out her blog, jana contreras studios to book your next session with her (or just browse around).

as you can see, we are definitely a kissing family. i guess i just love these boys so much i can't help but smother them with my love. ;)

pumpkin patch | 2015

11:22 PM

we got ourselves together this week and made it to the pumpkin patch. it was magical. in some ways it feels like just yesterday we walked the same patch, a newborn clark in tow, snug against me in his carrier, holland running to his heart's content putting every pumpkin he came in contact with in the wagon behind him, certain he had to find "no noggins head" (thank you curious george), us, hand in hand doting on our new little family of four. what change a year can bring and how fast they go.

like last year, we went on a week day at dusk, because there is no better time. warm evenings, dwindling crowds, the setting sun. i have fallen in love with fall, and with these few captured moments. my mamma heart wells up to see my children run wild and free like this. no tv or ipods or ipads, no toys or distractions. not a care in the world.

how is it that something as simple as a pumpkin patch makes me question what is is we are doing, this road that we are on, every single time? because surely, it does. would it be better just to stop it all, the busyness, schooling, loans, find a few acres and a farmhouse in some quiet little midwestern town, raise our children and work our land living quaint and small? i don't know, but some days it sounds rather dreamy.

october, stay a wile.
